Our Non-Wagering Promise

At The Grand River Lounge, poker is a social experience, not a gambling activity. Here is exactly what that means for every guest.

Social chips only

We use social poker chips that hold no monetary value. They are simply tools for friendly competition and learning. Chips are provided by the venue and can never be exchanged for cash or prizes of monetary value.

Tournament points

Players can earn tournament points for bragging rights and leaderboard positions, not for cash or prizes. Points are tracked for fun and recognition, and they carry no monetary reward of any kind.

Dining prizes

Occasionally, we offer dining vouchers or complimentary dishes as tokens of appreciation, never cash. These prizes are non-transferable, have no cash alternative, and are designed to enhance your dining experience.

House Rules for Poker Sessions

Our house rules are designed to keep the game friendly and fair for everyone. They cover conduct, game play, and venue policies, and are enforced by professional dealers and staff throughout your visit.

  1. Arrive on time. Sessions begin promptly. Late arrivals may be seated at the next available break to avoid disrupting play.
  2. Respect the dealer. The dealer manages the game and enforces these rules. Their decisions are final during a hand.
  3. Keep chips visible. Social chips must remain on the table in clear view at all times. Do not pocket or remove chips from the table.
  4. Play at a reasonable pace. Take the time you need, but avoid unnecessary delays. If you are unsure of a rule, ask the dealer.
  5. No side betting. There is no wagering of any kind, including informal bets between players. The game is for entertainment only.
  6. One player per hand. Do not reveal your cards or discuss your hand while it is in play. This keeps the game fair for everyone.
  7. Follow venue policies. All dining, beverage, and safety policies apply in the poker lounge. Staff may ask you to pause or step away if needed.

Poker Etiquette & Conduct

Good etiquette keeps the game enjoyable for everyone. Please be mindful of your fellow players and staff. Professional dealers are present to guide play, but a little courtesy goes a long way.

  • Silence your phone. Keep phones on silent and step away from the table for calls. Texting at the table should be brief and discreet.
  • Use respectful language. Offensive, aggressive, or discriminatory language is never acceptable. Treat every guest and staff member with courtesy.
  • Avoid unsolicited coaching. Let players make their own decisions. Offer advice only if asked, and keep it friendly.
  • Keep the table tidy. Food and drinks are welcome, but please use coasters and keep the felt clear of spills. Ask staff for assistance if needed.
  • Be a gracious winner and loser. Celebrate wins modestly and accept losses with good humour. The goal is a pleasant evening for everyone.

Australian Compliance & Licensing

The Grand River Lounge operates in full compliance with Australian federal and state regulations for hospitality venues and social entertainment. We hold all necessary licenses for food, beverage, and entertainment, and our poker activities are strictly non-wagering and align with responsible entertainment guidelines.

  • Licensed hospitality venue in New South Wales.
  • No gambling license required because no wagering occurs.
  • All poker sessions use social chips and tournament points only.
  • Regular staff training on responsible service and venue safety.

Responsible Entertainment

We are committed to a positive, low-pressure environment where the focus is on good food, good company, and the enjoyment of the game.

Player well-being

We encourage breaks, hydration, and mindful participation. Regular breaks are built into sessions, and our staff are trained to support a positive environment. Because there is no wagering, there is no financial risk.

Age restrictions

Guests must be 18 years or older to participate in poker sessions, in line with venue licensing. ID may be requested at any time. Minors are welcome in dining areas only and must be accompanied by an adult.

Support resources

While our poker is non-wagering, we recognise the importance of responsible entertainment. Information on support services is available upon request, and our staff are trained to respond appropriately.
